How does Invisalign Treatment Process Work?

Initial Consultation and Fitting

At your first consultation, your dentist will create a three-dimensional image of your teeth with specialized scanning equipment. In consultation with Invisalign, your dentist will build a streamlined treatment process using a series of comfortable, clear plastic aligners to gradually correct tooth alignment issues. Your first set of aligners will typically arrive 2 to 3 weeks after the initial consultation, and at that time, your dentist will ensure that they fit well.

Daily Use and Progress Check-ins

Compared to braces, Invisalign aligners are comfortable and convenient. You’ll need to wear the aligners 22 hours per day, but you can take them out to enjoy all types of food and beverages. You can also take them out to brush and floss, which is a significant health benefit for your teeth and gums.

As the alignment of your teeth improves, you’ll need to change aligners. The Invisalign system is sophisticated enough to produce a progression of aligners tailored for your teeth as they move. Typically, you’ll change your aligners every 1 or 2 weeks, and check in with your dentist every 6 to 8 weeks to review your progress. Depending on the complexity of your alignment scenario, you can expect to wear aligners for 6 months – 2 years.
